The One Thing You Need to Remember on Moving Day

Updated: Oct 12, 2022

Moving can be so stressful! Whether you’re moving by yourself or with a family, there is so much that needs to happen on the day of your move. But one thing almost every person forgets? Packing an actual “moving-day bag."

Packing this bag will help make sure everything else goes smoothly - because if we know anything about life as humans beings...it's that no matter how prepared things seem beforehand; they always end up differently. This first step will help you remain in control on moving day.

The Problem

Packing can be one of the most exhausting parts about moving, and it’s not just because you have to go through all your stuff. When there are so many things that need boxes or other containers for storage purposes (kitchen appliances! electronics!), finding what's necessary becomes overwhelming with everything else hanging around waiting in anticipation. You are exhausted from sorting out clothes that don't fit anymore or books with no place left on your shelves; all while trying not lose sight of necessities such as toothpaste- which brings me back full circle: staying organized during packing is key before fatigue sets in and you've reached the point where going through these items one by one just seems like too much work.

The Solution

Fortunately, a little forethought can stop this nightmare scenario. All you have to do is pack your moving day bag first.

It helps to have a bag for each member of your family. Make sure you have a change of clothes and toiletries for each person, plus a plate, cup, and set of silverware. Be sure to include any necessary medications for each person, any electronics you use regularly, and at least one roll of toilet paper.

If you want to get extra-prepared, you can also take some extra cleaning supplies, batteries, and clothing hangers for unpacking your belongings into your new closet. Don’t want to have to dig through your kitchen boxes for pots and pans? Keep your slow cooker separate from the rest of your kitchen utensils, and bring along the ingredients for a crock pot meal that can keep you fed while you get everything set up.

Packing this bag saves you a lot of time, and a lot of money and trips to the store to buy things you can’t find in your huge jumble of packed belongings! Make things easy on yourself and have your moving day bag be the first thing you get started packing.
